God’s People. God’s House.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between giving to RESTORE – All Giving and giving regular tithes and offerings?
In short, there is no difference. The RESTORE Initiative is a two-year journey from December 2025 to December 2027. During this time, every gift given to The District Church will be used both to continue our ongoing ministries (RESTORE God’s People) and to invest in the work God has given us to restore this historic building (RESTORE God’s House).
So, when you give your tithes and offerings to The District Church, you are giving to RESTORE. This initiative does not replace tithes and offerings—it includes them.
What is a "one-fund" initiative, and how is it different from a traditional fundraising campaign?
In a one-fund model, we are asking everyone to give toward the total vision. Everything we give—whether it’s to support ongoing ministry, outreach, or special projects like building renovations—is part of one unified vision. Your giving will impact all areas of our church’s ministry, not just a particular department or project.
We are asking that you make a commitment to gospel-driven, surrendered generosity – whatever it is that God leads you to do. Follow His leading.
Finally, prepare to be amazed. It is an awesome God that we serve, and we anticipate He will move in huge ways as we seek an unprecedented impact from our collective Restore commitments – something only God can do. Please mark your calendar for Commitment Sunday, March 6, and prepare to experience a life-changing worship service that will forever be remembered as a defining moment for our church and for our own faith.
How can I participate in RESTORE if I have variable income or am uncertain about my future income?
This is common. First, regarding the top bubble on your commitment card—your current annual giving—we suggest reviewing your giving over the past 2–3 years to calculate an average. This can provide a realistic estimate of how you may be able to participate over the next two years.
Second, if you haven’t consistently given to our church in the past or are new to giving, you might consider calculating your giving based on a percentage of your past income. Choosing a percentage or amount from historical income can help guide your commitment.
Remember, this is simply an expression of your intended support of RESTORE. We recognize that life happens. Some may experience a loss of income over the next couple of years, while others may see an increase—and may choose to adjust their commitment accordingly.
Our hope is that each of us will earnestly seek God’s guidance regarding our commitment and trust Him fully to provide.
Why is it necessary for everyone to fill out a commitment card?
Two reasons:
First, the commitment card is a discipleship tool between you and the Lord. If you haven’t already, watch this video from Pastors Aaron & Amy that walks you through how to fill it out.
Second, it greatly helps us in our budgeting process and is critical for construction planning at National. We want to ensure we can responsibly cover our costs.
Is this just about money? Why is the church doing this now?
Four years ago, we began praying for and giving toward a down payment for a permanent home in DC. God not only answered that prayer—He performed a miracle by providing a large, historic facility just one block from where we’ve met for 15 years.
The challenge now is raising the resources to renovate it, as the building is in serious disrepair. God has entrusted us with the work of restoring this historic facility so it can serve as a place of worship for the next 100 years.
So this season is about more than giving—it’s about spiritual growth, obedience, and faith. We believe God is calling our church to a deeper level of faithfulness and generosity to fulfill His mission in this next chapter. Giving is one way we grow in trusting God with our whole lives.
What if my financial situation changes during the commitment period?
We understand that life circumstances change. Your commitment is a faith estimate, not a contract. If your situation changes, you can adjust your commitment at any time by contacting our finance team.
How is the budget for the initiative determined?
The overall goal is prayerfully and strategically developed by our Executive Board and pastors, with guidance from our experienced team of ministry advisors. It is based on the church’s ministry vision, historical giving patterns, and the goals we believe God is calling us to pursue over the next two years.
What’s the best way for me to get involved?
Start by praying and asking God how He wants you to participate. Sign up for a tour if you haven’t gone on one yet. Join a Life Group and talk with your group and leaders about the vision God has given us—especially as we journey through the book of Haggai.
Reach out to a pastor with any questions you have. Most importantly, prepare your heart to say yes to whatever God leads you to do.

Who provides financial oversight and accountability for the funds given to the RESTORE Initiative?
Our pastors and staff create an annual budget that is closely reviewed and approved by our Executive Board of Overseers and then by our Leadership Community.
Our finances are managed by an independent external accounting firm, and we are audited annually by a separate accounting firm. This system has helped us faithfully steward every dollar entrusted to us over the past 15 years.
